Statement of BRUCE DANIELS

Candidate for Director Soquel Creek Water District

Occupation:  Water Official / Scientist                                       Age: 59

Education and Qualifications:
Because I deliver cost-effective results, I ask for your vote and your trust with our vital but threatened water resources. Twice I was appointed by the Governor and elected Chairperson of the State Regional Water Quality Control Board. I am an MIT-educated scientist, member of national water science organizations, and founder of my own business balancing technology with fiscal responsibility. I'm honored to serve as elected President of your Soquel Creek Water Board, with a solid record of accomplishments including

- saving you $1.25 million by refinancing bonds,
- reducing saltwater intrusion risk by reversing 20 years of over-pumping,
- improving water quality by blending-down Chromium6 and removing arsenic at bargain costs,
- finding new water supplies mostly paid by new development.

To help fixed-income customers, I did not vote for the recent rate increase, although I’m very proud of our District’s creative conservation programs. I support presenting well-researched environmental options to you, the voters, not pushing any particular project. To address the serious challenges still facing water resources in this climate of Global Warming, I pledge my creativity, hard work, experience, my caring and responsiveness to your concerns: Bruce.Daniels@alum.MIT.edu
